![]() Susanne has written and spoken on numerous topics of applied theology, in other words, applying Biblical and spiritual experiences to living today. Some of these topics include adult spirituality, ecumenism, chaplaincy, and Quaker theology and practice. In her writing, Susanne reflects on how spiritual and Biblical experiences help us to decide how to live in today's increasingly secular and consumer culture without losing hope. Growing up in southern Africa, Susanne developed a special passion for social justice work, and this is reflected in her writing, teaching and speaking. Susanne believes that our experience of and listening to God is the source of vision for our work in the world, renews our energy and helps us to discern the way forward in keeping with principles of love, compassion, and justice. Writing Susanne has written journal articles, book reviews, and book chapters on spiritual nurture of Quaker individuals and groups. "Finding Meaning in the Meaningless" was a series of articles published in Kvekeren, the Norwegian Quaker journal, exploring how to explain why bad things happen without destroying our hope for the future. Susanne contributed a chapter on Quaker ministerial identity to "Out of the silence - Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling", edited by J. Bill Ratliff (Pendle Hill Publications, 2001). Susanne also was a presenter and writer on the section on Authority at the Friends World Committe for Consultation Conference on Identity, Authority and Community in 1996. Speaking/teaching Susanne organized and taught at a Nordic Quaker "Confirmation camp" in 1995. She gave the keynote address to Norway Yearly Meeting Annual Sessions in 1995 and gave the keynote address to Friends World Committe for Consultation's European and Middle East Section Easter gathering in 1996. She based her talk on her experiences during a year of pastoral visitation among Norwegian Friends. Susanne has frequently been invited to speak about Quakerism and about chaplaincy to groups such as Interfaith Council of Seattle. | |||||||||
