Using Our Money to Serve the Poor
Saturday, November 17, 2007

Paul made it clear that the love of money is "the root of all evils" (1Tim. 6:10). However, preoccupation with how we will pay our bills now or in the future takes our mind away from God just as surely. Many of us feel troubled by the unequal distribution of wealth in the world and struggle to determine how we can use our money as a vehicle for loving God, loving our neighbor, and loving ourselves. We can't free ourselves from engaging with money, but perhaps we can find a way to be joyful about using our resources as we serve the poor?

Join Susanne Kromberg and Nate Macy for a day of prayer and reflection on how God may be inviting you to joyful freedom from the tyranny of money.

Study Group: Rich People in an Age of Hunger
Every Wednesday at 7:00 pm | November 14, 2007 through June 11, 2008

The Bible contains more than 3,000 verses that tell us that God expects us to take on special responsibility for people who are at a disadvantage in life. These verses suggest that wealth need not divert us from a spiritual path-provided we use our wealth for the greater good of all. What is the best way to share? How can we use our resources so they have the greatest impact? How much does each one of us need?

M. Susanne Kromberg, M. Div, will facilitate a book group that encourages personal discovery of how each participant is called to live. Susanne is a firm believer that-although some may choose to live with less as a result of this discernment-this is intended to be a joyful discovery of the meaning of our lives and becoming free to live as God created us to live, individually and in community.

Using Ronald Sider's Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger as a starting point, we will consider models of tithing, ways of sharing resources, using our time well and discovering how we can free up energy to care for those within and outside our closest circles of family and friends, and considering how we can know what is right and manageable for each one of us.
